Hi,
I just visited my doctor and she says that I need to have an ultrasound done on my Abdomen. The instructions on the paper says to "assess liver and kidneys pt has evidence of proteinuria and elevated LFT" What does all that mean? And she says that my urine hand protein in it? What does all that mean, and what can I do about it?

If there is proteinuria in urine then your doctor is interested in knowing the texture of the kidney because normally there shouldnt be protein in urine if so then we need to consider that there is some kidney damage and your doctor want to know what is the cause for that .
Next is altered LFT ,usually it occurs whenever there is damage to hepatocytes which are present in the liver ,and there are many causes for altered LFT ,because the treatment modality will change .

damage to the liver may not be only with alcohol there are so many others causes for that ,like obesity leasds to non alcoholic steatohepatitis that leads to deranged LFT,like wise few are in autoimmune causes and many more .
