What Does This Umbilical Cord Blood Test Result Indicate?
Question: Hi, my baby's (presently 8 weeks old) umbilical cord blood sample shows CMV IgG - Reactive and CMV IgM - Non Reactive. What should I do. If I remember correct one of of wife's blood report had indicated that she has herpes but when we showed her to a doctor we were advised that it is dormant and she has no complains at all. Please advise if I need to get any further tests done on my child.
Brief Answer:
No need for further tests
Detailed Answer:
Hi...There is no need for further tests. It means that your wife is already protected by her own immunity. The same she has transferred to your baby and further testing is not required.
This means that due to maternal antibodies your baby is also protected from CMV as of now.

I read on some websites that CMV can cause hearing loss or learning disability in some infants. Is this possible in a infant were CMV IgG is reactive but CMV IgM is Non reactive?
Brief Answer:
Your kid doesnt have CMV
Detailed Answer:
Hi....that's a theoretical possibility. But it happens in kids with CMV infection. But your kid doesn't have CMV. Moreover if the kid had CMV, IgM would have been positive.
DO NOT WORRY.
