Posted on Sat, 4 Oct 2014
Question: I have tingling on my right side every morning. mostly discomfort but sometimes pain - usually it goes away after a couple of hours but is now more frequent. I am 54, usually healthy female. I only have a gynecologist and am wondering if this is serious and what kind of specialist I should see. Am thinking a pinched nerve but it also tingles from my knee to middle toe today

Brief Answer:
Neurologist would be one good specialist to keep in mind.

Detailed Answer:
Good morning. My name is Dr. Dariush Saghafi and I am a neurologist from the XXXXXXX Ohio area.

I understand that your chief complaint is right-sided tingling in the mornings and sometimes with pain associated. You are 54 years old and are wondering if there were a certain type of specialist that you should be seeing for this condition. it sounds as if something little bit more unusual is happening recently in terms of these feelings of pain and discomfort also involving your foot and lower extremity.

You mentioned thinking that this could be a pinched nerve and I agree with that as one possible diagnosis. A neurologist would be, in my opinion, to perform a thorough workup of both your neck as well as brain since it is also possible that the sensations you are having our emanating from somewhere other than your neck.

A neurologist could determine rather quickly through examination as well as testing if your problem were indeed more of a neurological issue or perhaps more musculoskeletal which would then involve orthopedics or physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Therefore, in answer to your question I believe a neurologist would be the best specialist for you to see first in order to determine what may be wrong with the right side that it is tingling and causing you some discomfort.

I hope that the information I provided answers your question and has given you a bit more insight into the direction that would best serve your needs to address the problems at hand. If this is the case, would you do me the favor of returning a brief note of written feedback on the quality of the response as well as a star rating and also if there are no further questions to add or comments it would be of great help if you would close this query so that the network may begin processing, archiving, and giving appropriate credit to this conversation for future reference.

This response required 19 minutes of Physician specific time to review, research, and prepare final draft documentation for envoy.
