How Can A Stroke Patient Be Rehabilitated?

my father-in-law (age 87) had a stroke six months back. He had to undergo an operation as there was clot and bleeding in the brain. Now he responds to sound but not able to speak or express himself. He is bedridden, but able to move his hands and legs. We are trying to stimulate him with music, tv and talk. He opens his eyes when we call him but more than that he is not responding much. He is under medication for diabetic, B P, convulsion . We are giving him good nursing care and physiotherapy. What more to be done as a part of rehabilitation?

As per your explanation I appreciate your concern for him. Here you are doing most of things needed for him. Don't worry for speech. Because for most cases it comes back with time yes the time also depends on how much damage has happen in side the brain.
Here you are also taking care for medicine for BP as well sugar so that way it's a good job.
In terms of physio you can just talk to therapist what all things he is trying. If possible ask him to start with pnf technique and motor relearning therapy this will help for muscle activation. Remember here the time for improvement will depend on the amount of damage happen in brain and it's not define. This will go in 3 stage, stage of flacidity, stage of spasticity, and stage of recovery. From one stage to next stage how much time is needed no body can guarantee but with physio treatment we can stimulate the patient body to start moving to next stage.
Rest all what you are doing is good so take care.
