What Fatigue, Joints Pain And Insomnia?

default
Posted on Wed, 19 Oct 2016
Question: HI,

I have had a virus for about a month. It won't go away. I'll feel better for a few days and all the sudden I'll get incredibly tired and spike a fever again.

I am breast feeding. I have a one year old daughter, not sure if I should continue?? But I assume she already has it. She seems to have a touch of something but is not as sick as me.

My symptoms are extreme fatigue, aching joints, and fever, insomnia, swollen lymph nodes, and recently depression just because I feel so bad. I am 52 and a single mom. I also just got fired so I think I am run down.

My mother was in a Rehab facility and I am starting to thing I picked up something from the facility - it was full of elderly people who were very sick. Could I have meningitis? Starting to get very concerned.

Thanks,

XXXX

Brief Answer:
Explained possible diagnoses and further steps to be taken.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Thank you for using HCM to post your question.

I read it carefully and I understand your concern.

What you are describing doesn't seem like meningitis, unless you have a stiff neck and very painful to move. Also, meningitis would not last for one month but would made you feel very very bad and getting worse.

Other possibilities to keep in mind as most possible diagnoses are Pneumonia (because you describe it as a virus and I assume with respiratory symptoms), or a Urinary tract infection (because it comes without urinary symptoms sometimes, but nonspecific one and expecially fever, as you are describing), Mononucleosis ( because it lasts for such long time and has swollen nodes)

I would recommend to drink lots of fluids and havr a healthy diet, take Ibuprofen as needed for the fever and aches.

Also, you will need to consider doing some labs:
-- A complete blood count: to check the level of infection and type of it.
-- A urine analyse: to rule out a urinary tract infection.
-- A abdomanal ultrasound: to check for enlarged liver, slpeen or other nodes.
From there, you would know if you will need a mono test and also a chest x-ray.

Follow up with me if you want. But if worse or not better I would recommend seeing a local doctor who can perform a physical exam which we cant do from here.

Hope this is helpful.
