Question: I have been taking Cymbalta for approx. three and half years for depression and chronic pain. I was prescribed abilify approx. two years ago. Abllfy is no longer available to me so I was given Latuda as a substitute. Be fore taking this new med I have research it. From the information that I have read it is mostly prescribed for bipolar disorder. I have never been diagnosed as bi polar. Is it normal for this medication to be given to patients as an alternative?

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Both Abilify and Latuda are commonly used as augmenting antidepressants. They are versatile and used in many conditions including depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. For you, they both serve to boost the effect of Cymbalta. Latuda and Abilify are very similar so it makes sense to replace Abilify with Latuda. Everything here makes sense and will help you feel better.
