Brief Answer:
These ligaments needed for ankle stabilisation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I am giving answer in same sequence .
1. Joint effusion means that there is collection of joint fluid or blood in the ankle joint. It is going to absorbed soon.
2. Marrow edema means there is collection of fluid in the bone also. Itmeans that bone is also got damaged in this process. This means there was a sever impact to bone.
3. Anterior talofibular ligament and calcaneofibular ligament is helpful for ankle stability. They prevent ankle dislocation when a person walks on uneven ground.
Mostly these ligaments heals well in plaster. If there is persistent instability then it can be treated with a surgery.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.

Do you have a printable picture of the foot/ankle with these ligaments marked? Specifically which bones/tendons to they connect?
