What Is Low Anion Gap?
Finding consistent with low anion gap metabolic acidosis
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
I appreciate your concern
Low anion gap metabolic acidosis is consistent with a high chloride. Let me explain...
Anion gap is a gauge of unmeasured ions in the blood , basically its cations minus anions. Cations being sodium and potassium and anions being chloride and bicarbonate. In conditions like Myeloma, low albumin levels due to any cause, the chloride level along with the bicarbonate can rise to maintain electrical neutrality. The underlying cause of the acidosis should be treated which commonly include diarrhea, diabetes and drugs. Lithium use and other divalent cations like calcium, magnesium can also cause a low anion gap though in case of these divalent cations the chloride does not increase.
Wishing you best of health
