What Is The Cause And Treatment For Breathing Difficulty?

Question: Doctor, I am having breathless I have done my lung test(mild OPD), cardiac test, Gatro test(endoscopy - problems: ulcer, fatty changes in liver, borderline spleen...) every thing is ok . I consulted physiatrist and he suggest that it might be anxiety problem. My breathing problem still does not improve. So, I consulted ENT and done with scanning. Here is the report details: S SHAPE DEVIATION OF NASAL SEPTUM HYPERTROPHIED BILATERAL INFERIOR NASAL TURBINATES MUCOSAL THICKNESS IN MAXILLARY SINUSES ON BOTH SIDES-DUE TO INFECTIVE ETIOLOGY Here my question is why iam still breathless, is it because of gas.., or anxiety or ENT problem.

I shall make an effort to provide you with good professional recommendations specific to your questions. Yes, as it is very clear with your scan as suggested by your ENT surgeon - all the factors outlined will be responsible for your breathing difficulty. Primarily, this is due to the fact that all the mentioned points reduce the airway efficiency mechanism. The priority for your ENT doctor now would be to treat you with antimicrobial agents for your maxillary sinusitis (thickening) after culture and sensitivity tests. After this infection subsides - couple of months later on follow up septum and turbinate defects will be looked into as much as the maxillary sinus. All these 3 mentioned will be considered for treatment even if a surgery is mandated. COPD (assuming "mild OPD") can also be the next important reason for breathing issues - but more light will be shed in the pulmonary function tests. The type of COPD will also have to clinically determined. Ulcer in the GIT and Fatty liver will not cause such problem, as much as anxiety unless it is a major anxiety disorder of the severe type. All these 3 mentioned will be considered for treatment even if a surgery is mandated. ----> Can you please let me know the medication i need to subside the infection meanwhile. 2. COPD (assuming "mild OPD") can also be the next important reason for breathing issues - but more light will be shed in the pulmonary function tests. The type of COPD will also have to clinically determined. ------> I am using Trimium 2 puffs in the morning every day. Regarding anxiety I am using ----> FLUTOP 20 MG, ARIPMT 5MG, ATIVAN 2MG when pain attacks. Gastro - PAND Can you please tell me any medicine to make my breathing happy, I am not suffering from asthma or let me know the complete medical procedure to treat this breathlessness.

Brief Answer: Treatment requires more than just drugs. Detailed Answer: Thanks for your follow up query. My thoughts regarding your points - 1. Anti-microbial drug will be selected upon the basis of the bacterial flora affecting your maxillary sinus if any. And then the sensitivity report. 2. That drug acts like a bronchodilator and does help your breathlessness. 3. Your anxiety and GIT medication looks good. As I have briefed you the reasons for your breathlessness earlier - there will be intervention from your ENT specialist as required for a complete cure rather than just drugs. That would be the complete treatment. It is no good keeping you on additional drugs to dilate the lung airways when your lungs are in fact normal. Let me know if there are additional concerns.
