What Is The Cause And Treatment For Chronic Kidney Disease?

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Nov 2014
Question: Went to the Dr. for my six-month check up, had a lipid profile and metabolic panel done prior to appt., the metabolic panel showed that my creatinine was 1.24 and GFR was 42-she wrote on my sheet that I had stage 3 kidney disease-she had me stop my prescription of hydrochlorothiazide (sp) and said she would check in three months. This happened to me a year ago also, but my creatinine level went down to almost normal on the next test -3 months later-do I have kidney disease - and what should I do? I am 78 years old and in good health otherwise, I work full time and exercise daily-I am very frightened.

Brief Answer:
Stage 3 Chronic kidney disease...

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thank you for posting.

I have gone through your query and I understand your concerns.

Your creatinine level is normal for your age, but the GFR level suggests Stage 3 Chronic kidney disease.

Chronic kidney disease is caused by some different factors or diseases. So, to treat this disease you must find the cause first.
To do that you need the following tests:
1. Lipid test(cholesterol, tryglicerides, high-density lipoprotein and low-density lipoprotein levels).
2. Fasting glucose test.
3. Check you blood pressure.
4. Renal Ct-scan.
5. Complete blood count.
6. Urine test.

The results of the above tests will find the cause of Chronic kidney disease and will determine the needed treatment.

Ask me for anything unclear.

Wish you good health.
Dr. Behar.
