Question: 24 year old male. Prev Hx URI =>Bacterial Sinusitis& throat infection by virtual consult Severe Sore throat, painful swallowing, retracted ears, nose inflammation, Headache, Body aches, Chills, nose, neck, aches, tooth/jaw pain etc., Is it normal to have that much sore throat pain with Sinusitis? the way back of the throat is very very inflamed. Uvula looks wet and a little swollen. Swollen glands definite.
Multiple Abx to attempt to make pain go away

Afebrile mostly due to norco. current temp is 36C or 96.8F

How do I make the pain stop and get rid of this nasty bug? 6/6 people in family have variations of this infection. 1/2 on Abx

Would levaquin be any better or does this sound like a resistant strep infection?

Brief Answer:
requires throat swab.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having severe throat pain.

Based on your clinical details and pictures, it appears to be pharyngitis secondary to sinus infection.

Answers and solutions for queries.

1. Yes it is possible. sinusitis with post nasal drip (sinus secretions can trickle into throat) can cause sore throat (pharyngitis).

2. Looks like you are resistant to azithromycin, ciprofloxacin.

3. Levoquin (levofloxacin) belongs to same group of flouroquinolones, You have already tried (ciprofloxacin).

4. Take simple paracetamol 650mg for pain and cap.amoxicillin 500mg thrice daily (medical prescription needed). It works best for throat and sinus infections.

Mean time, kindly send throat swab for culture and sensitivity.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Yes. As per photo, redness and congestion reduced.

Continue Acetaminophen twice daily and salt water gargling.

In case of persistence, needs to be evaluated with throat swab.
