Brief Answer: recurrent abscess Detailed Answer: HI, thanks for using healthcare magic It is likely a recurrence of the abscess. If remnants of pus cells remain then they can recollect and cause another infection. IF the lesion was no painful, it would have been possible that it was scar tissue that had formed where the previous abscess had been located. This is not uncommon however scar tissue is not painful. In the initial stages of an abscess formation , the area is hard. AS the infection progresses, the pus 'breaks down' and the lesion may start to form a pointing aspect. At this point the abscess can be drained. To help it reach this point , you can apply magnesium sulphate cream. This can be obtained at a local pharmacy. After it has softened and is ready to discharge, your doctor can open it and break down any pus walls. Even if it bursts at home, it is still best to visit your doctor because a small amount of pus can remain that needs to be removed. Antibiotics may also be needed. I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
