Question: I would like to know what the "general" course of action is for stage four chronic kidney failure. Dialysis? Transplant? Meds? Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX Thanks for writing to XXXXXXX Stage four chronic kidney failure is advanced stage of renal disease and you can't afford more loss of renal tissue.Stage four is mainly managed by medicines,diet,exercise. Treatment plan is decided by serum creatinine,hemoglobin,calcium,potassium level. If you have concomitant physical problems like hypertension,diabetes mellitus,anemia,bone problems then it should be treated aggressively.You should take medicines regularly. You should also modify your life style,diet.You should exercise regularly.Take restricted salt in your diet. Stage four may lead to stage five renal failure and it is an emergency and only option will be dialysis or renal transplant. Stage four disease is also associated with heart problems so lipid profile should be assessed and if there is alteration,it need correction.
