Question: What is the difference in the active and inactive ingredients in Ambien and its generic, Zolpidem? As Ambien is very expensive but the generic makes me wake up irritable. Is that possible?

Brief Answer:
no pharmacological difference.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I understand your concerns.

Pharmacologically, there is no difference between ambien and generic zolpidem.

However, in practical experience, some patients do complain of differences in efficacy and tolerability of the two for unexplained reasons.

Possibly, the generic zolpidem is not working for you.

Kindly discuss this with your doctor.

I wish you well.
Take care.
Thanks.
