Can I Take Ambien With History Of Elevated Liver Function?
I take ambien and omeprazole and have a history of elevated liver function test. last two results were 68 in april and 77 this month. is is wise for me to still be on ambien? I am 52 years of age, 181 pounds, 66 inches tall and history of cva, heart, hysterectomy, bi-lat pulmonary emoboli, dvt s leg and neuropothy.

Ambien belongs to the group of medications known as sedative-hypnotics that is used in the treatment of anxiety related insomnia and other sleeping difficulties. But like other medications this medication has some side effects of its own. Naturally women have less amount of liver enzymes than men, so metabolism of drug may occur in their livers more slowly.
As Ambien is usually metabolized in the liver, this medication may stay in a woman's liver for a long time and may in turn be harmful for their livers due to their slow metabolism rate. So, this medication should be avoided as you have history of elevated liver enzymes. Without your doctor's permission, you should not start taking this medication.

Ambien is metabolized through the liver and if you have already deranged liver function then you must avoid it or at least decrease the dose. You have quite a few health problems and must be taking medicines for that which leads to liver toxicity so take as less medication as possible.
