Question: My doctor had me on coreg for hi blood pressure for quite a while and it worked well, but the insurance wanted him to use a generic and at that time there was none. He changed me to attenonol and it doesn't seem to work nearly as well. Is there a big difference in the two?

Brief Answer:
Coreg is a stronger antihypertensive agent...

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

The difference between coreg and atenolol is that correg has beta and alfa blocker effect. Atenolol has only beta 1 blocker effect and so has a weeker antihypertensive effect compared to coreg.

My advise is to continue with coreg or to discuss with your doctor to add an antihypertensive agent to atenolol to control BP.

Wish you health!
