Question: my brother fell out of the tub about 2 weeks ago. He developed a hard knot in his butt cheek. it is on the outside straight across from the anus. It hurts him to sit down. It is warm to touch but no signs of a pimple or boil of any kind. He was driving a truck last week and he said he hit a very large hole that made it worse. What do you think this may be

Cnsiderations
Detailed Answer:
Hello & thank you for submitting your question.
It is very likely that your brother developed a bruise deep in the soft tissue of the buttocks. This might take a while (several weeks) to heal completely given its location. Also, after local trauma (falling out of tub) the body can respond with increased inflammation & fibrous tissue within the area. If the area remains swollen, extremely painful, or changes color, it would be very reasonable to see a doctor for a physical exam and to make sure there is no fracture or other process. In the meantime, it might help to take warm soaks in the tub with Epsom salt.
I hope this has been helpful & that your brother feels better very soo. It was very kind for you to submit this question on his behalf.
Take care,
Dr G
