What Is The Healing Process After A Laminectomy?
Could you tell me the healing process after a laminectomy? Is having a laminectomy realistic in the removal of a cynovial cyst that is compromising the root nerve in the spine at L4L5? Have you heard that such an operation could help heal a drop foot due to the pressure on the sciatic nerve from the cyst?
Thak you for taking the time to respond.

Detailed Answer:
Hello. I have been through your question and understand your concern.
Foot drop is a major event in our profession. It is caused by any lesion or mass which compresses the L5 root, as might be a herniated disc, tumor or even a synovial cyst.
Synovial cysts are benign lesions of the fascets, which are the joints between the two vertebras. Underneath it, at the L4/5 level passes the L5 root (part of the sciatic nerve), which if compressed for a long time can cause damage of the nerve with difficulties on raising the foot, which is called foot drop.
Surgery to decompress the nerve root is essential and should be done as quick as possible, in order to save the nerve root. It is a simple surgery with low risks. If the nerve root is not totally damaged it should recover (though it is difficult to say for sure at what degree)
Recommend surgery.
