Brief Answer:
Not even lamotrigine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

No! Even lamotrigine should not be substituted. Lamotrigine is also an antiepileptic medicine.
Rather,I would suggest to have a trial of amitriptyline 10 mg at bedtime everyday.
This will help combat depression as well as primary headache associated with it.

If you have any further queries,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

Answered by Dr. Ajay Panwar (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
Thyroid functions need monitoring.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

Dicorate ER(valproate) therapy has been shown to cause promote hypothyroidism in some patients. So,while on valproate therapy, please do periodic monitoring of thyroid function tests.

You can do regular cardio exercises along with dietary restrictions like low fat and low carb diet.A diet chart to promote weight loss, will be of help.

Hope that helps. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

Sir I have to stop lithium a drug of choice due to effect on my thyroid profile. if dicorate is also doing so why not to take lithium?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Ajay Panwar (4 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Dicorate interactions are not as well recognised as Lithium's.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

Its because Dicorate may cause only mild interactions with thyroid hormones, that too in a small number of patients. It has more chances to do no harm in an individual.
However,Lithium's interactions with thyroid are well established from older times and may be of severe degree.

So,I can't suggest you to stop Dicorate ER.Instead,I am just saying to monitor thyroid functions.
