What Is The Ideal Dosage Of Robitussin For Congestion?

Question: My 92 year old mother is taking Robitussin for congestion. She says the directions say she can only take 6 dosage in any 24 hour period. She has gone though 1 24 hour period and has taken 6 dosage. She is of the belief she can take no more. My husband and I tried to explain to her, she can not start on her second 24 hour period and again take the medicine every four hours which will only give her the 6 dosages and continue until the medicine is gone. I would like for her to continue to take the medicine because of her congestion. Just to be sure I wanted a Doctor's opinion to know I'm not telling her wrong.

Would the medication along with the hydrocodone cause to act somewhat senile.

You are correct. She can start the second day of medications. She's safe to take as much as 2.4g daily in 6 divided doses. Also, it is safe taking both medications together as there are no reported side effects of this drug here.
