Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Taking Robitussin And Mucines Dx Elevate Liver Enzymes?
I recently had blood test that indicated elevated liver enzymes ALT of 48 and ASL of 31. I am otherwise healthy I had been taking over the counter cold medicines, Robitussin and Mucinex dx for about a week before my blood work. Can either of these medicines have such an effect?
Paracetamol is mostly known to cause elevated liver enzymes. Also, other medications can do it. The enzymes will get back to normal when you stop using the medications. These levels are not significant for liver diseases. Repeat the test after a month.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
