Question: My grandmother is 90 and has been ill but now we have been told that she has fluid on the heart and fluid in the lungs what does it mean and what is the life expectancy of a person with this at 90.

diseased or overworked left ventricle ( one of the heart chamber ) is not
able to pump enough blood it receives from lungs .

@ So lungs become heavy, there is fluid collection in pleural space ,
difficulty in breathing .

@ Fluid also accumulates in the lining around heart as pericardial effusion .

* Life expectancy of person with this at 90 , varies depending upon the
underlying cause , associated other problems , body`s immune system ,
current treatment .

* Grossly one can say , that if parameters are settled with current medications
further life expectancy may be for years if there is no other worsening .

My grandmother has diabetes and has lost her ability to walk in the last week dew to this and she is in hospital as we speak and has phenomena and doctors have said yesterday that she is on the strongest antibiotics they can give her and it has not been working so they have taken her off the iv since last night. She has stopped eating also.
