Thank for the query.
Generally, the treatment is expectative. It means that cysts should be frequently checked up by ultrasound and thyroid hormones measurements and if there is no rapid growth, respiration symptoms, malignancy risk, cosmesis concerns or hormonal imbalance, there is no need for any intervention.
In most cases cysts are small and benign and dont cause any of problems I ve mentioned, but in first case you need to rule out malignancy which is rare, but possible. So if there is significant cyst growth(more than 1cm a year),you should do needle biopsy/aspiration under US and then it can be sent to cytologic analysis. You should do the same if there is hormonal abnormality or you have thyroid cancers in family history.
If there is no growth or hormonal imbalance and cyst is small (<2cm),then no treatment is required. YOu should just do US and T3,T4 once a year for follow up. Of course,if there is any bad effect of this cyst or malignancy risk,it can be surgically removed and this is permanent treatment. Other methods such as aspiration or medical therapy is less efficient but may be beneficial in some cases.
Wish you good health. If you have any questions I ll be glad to help. Regards

Ultrasound. it can detect any serious cyst changes. Scintigraphy can be done too for cysts measurements, but US is usually enough.
