What Is The Source Of Gas During Belching?

Question: When belching excessively, what is the source of the gas? I would like to know if the gas can be from the intestines or is it largely from the stomach?
Is it possible for gas from the intestines to travel up or do they mostly go down? If possible, what ratio/percentage would go down/up?

Brief Answer:
Gas from stomach and food pipe
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The gas during belching is mostly from the stomach.
During excessive belching it is aerophagia (swallowing of air) which causes the belching. After a belch there is in voluntary swallowing of air which enters the food pipe and is expelled during the next belch. The rate cycle is repeated causing multiple belching episodes.
Gas from the intestines does not usually come up except in cases of obstruction and it is not possible to give a percentage.
Hope this helps
