Question: my 8 year old son has had a sore left lung area for months. he had an xray several months ago. 1 doctor interpreted pneumonia, the other bronchitis, the next bronchitis, the third said shallow breathing still on lower left and ordered another xray which came back fine. Why 2 1/2 months later does his lung still hurt? He has also had groin, pelvic and abdomen ultrasound and bloods and all come back normal. He also has random pain, general malaise, episodes of vomitting, bedwetting and anxiety.

Brief Answer: miositis, not pneumonia Detailed Answer: Hi, About two months ago your child had a lung infection. Whatever it was bronchitis or pneumonia it is an acute infection and resolves gradually but totally. The radiologic resolution tend to occur later than the clinical symptoms. So if after 2 and a half months the doctor said that the radiography was ok you don't need to worry any more. The ache that your child has is not related any more to the bronchitis-pneumonia. It may be a miositis that causes the pain. That means a viral infection that affects the muscles. For the pain you may use acetaminophen two-three times a day for a couple of days. If the pain goes away than you can stop it. If not let me know and we will consult again. Regards, Dr. Sonila Borici
