default
Posted on Tue, 22 Jul 2014
Question: I have breast cancer with sentinel node invasion. I had lumpectomy with the removal of 3 sentinel nodes. I had radiation, chemo, Herceptin infusion, and now I am on letrozole. Side effects are very bad but I cant find any internet that letrozole is a final treatment of this type of cancer treatment. Is this medicine a required part of the cancer treatment I went thru? (stage 2 her - I think)

Brief Answer:
yes its given in hormone responsive cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

Letroxole is antiestrogen, given in hormone responsive breast cancer in postmenopausal women.

So, yes this is a part of your cancer treatment, but not the final step. But as most of the treatment has already been tried on you so they might be left with this as the next option.

And in cancer treatment there is nothing as hard line protocol. There is lot of flexibility and modifications. It all depends upon the patients response. The treatment is individualized not generalized.

Hope i have been helpful.
