There are a wide range of normal temperatures depending on where it is measured, fever is said to occur if:
(1) temperature in the anus is at or above 37.5-38.3 (99.5-100.9)
(2) temperature in the mouth is at or over 37.7 (99.9)
(3) temperature under the arm or in the ear is at or over 37.2 (99.0).
Low grade fever range from 100F-101F while high grade fevers range from 103F to 104F

A fever usually comes with other symptoms. It is caused when your body's immune system reacts to pyrogens (fever producing substances). Possible pyrogens include viruses, bacteria, fungi, drugs or toxins.

In mild fever, medication may be unnecessary. Treatment however can consist of:
- Removing excess clothes, lukewarm bath, remember if chills should develop you should not bundle up,
- Use of medication such as acetaminophen (paracetamol) or ibuprofen. Acetaminophen is used every 4 to 6 hours if necessary and ibuprofen every 8 hours is necessary.

You should contact your doctor
-if the fever is above 105 and does not respond to home therapy,
-remains above 103F and last longer than 3 days,
-if you have any serious medical illnesses or problems with your immune system,
-if the fever is associated with any serious other symptoms,
-if you develop a new rash or have symptoms that may be related to a urinary tract infection which may require antibiotics
