Question: Dear doctor,
I am doing daily exercices on my elliptical trainer 90 min per day. I am keepeng my heart rate between 110-120 bpm, hovewer this level of workout does not allow me to achieve desired calorie burn. While increasing to desired level of workout my heart rate increases to avarage 130-140 bpm, however some people argue that it is too much. I am 28 years old and weigthing 92 kilos.my height is 185 centimeters. Could you please reccomend what is the optimal avarage bpm for me during exercise on my elliptical.
Thank you in advance
XXXX
Brief Answer:
Optimal heart rates varies between individual.
Detailed Answer:
Hello there,
Welcome to HCM, Thanks for writing to us,
First I want you to know that, the heart rate are calculated on basis of resting posture (more than 100 bpm is called tachycardia), not on cardio and during exercises to say it is abnormal.
During exercise it will abruptly increases in rate varying from individual to individual, some tolerate up to 150bpm but some may feel fatigue , dsypnoea (difficult in breathing ) even at 110 plus bpm.
So, it is individual capacity, so if you are 130 to 140 bpm still keeping good respiration and stamina, you can continue to workout.
But, I advise to leave frequent pauses in between the training to have effective and good results.
As you are 92 kg and 185 cm , your BMI is 26.9 which is just a little above normal (19-25).
So just a regular and simple exercise and cardio helps you fit and healthy.
Take care.
