What Would Cause Skin Color To Darken Around The Anal Area?
Question: What would cause skin color to darken around the anal area?
Brief Answer:
A photo of darkened anal area is needed;usually dark anal area is normal...
Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,
Can you send a picture of the anal skin area that is darkened?
Please bare in mind that the skin color around the anus is normal, especially noted in white women. I want to see your anal area to evaluate if the darkening is due to another pathology or within normal range.
Looking forward to have the photos in!

The newly darkened skin area expands about 1 inch out from the anus. Is it normal to develop a darker area like this? This is a black female not a white female. Skin color was brown, now very dark brown. Person has lost about 8 pounds in several months (down 2 pant sizes).
Brief Answer:
Possible fungal infection;weight loss should be further investigated...
Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
Thank you for providing additional details (although I was hoping to get a photo).
1. You are saying that the patient has just noticed this darker area about 1 inch out from the anus. And has been losing 8 pounds in several months.
These are clues that should further investigated:
- if the skin has become darker recently, a KOH 10% mount is advised to rule out fungal infection although no other signs are present
2. With regards to weight loss, I need to know:
- if the patient has a recent history of bleeding? diarrhea? vomiting?
- any personal history of metabolic diseases: diabetes? thyroid problems?
- any changes in bowel movements?
- any test run so far? medications?
I want to gather and analyze all these information before running into final conclusions.
Thank you!
