Question: When is the best time to take arimidex? I have been on it for a month taking it in the AM then switching to PM to see if I could sleep better. Same result not sleeping. Have been taking clonazepam that was prescribed by my PCP for anxiety during tx stage one BC invasive ductal carcinoma. I don't want to rely on this to sleep.

Brief Answer:
Arimidex is known to cause insomnia in research studies

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for choosing HCM for your health related queries

Arimidex is Anastrozole and this is a wonder drug used in early stages of breast carcinoma. The drug is an aroatase inhibitor and has excellent effects. The drug is known to cause disturbed sleep, night sweats as side effects. Various studies on patients taking the drug support this. In my clinic the referred patients who are on this drug I usually advise them to take the drug in morning hours or AM doses.

Yes clonazepam can be used for anxiety and sleep but you should not take the drug on long term basis because it may result in dependence and stopping the drug will become difficult in such case. If you don't want to become dependent on medicines then medicines like Ramelteon, Melatonin can be used. These medicines help to improve melatonin hormone and result in good sleep without resulting in risk of dependence. These drugs help to improve the melatonin concentration in brain, which is sleep hormone. Other options for sleep are Trazodon, Doxepine etc drugs. These drugs are basically anti-depressant drugs but in low doses help to reduce anxiety and improves sleep. These are safe drugs and are free of dependence potential. I would advise you to discuss with your PCP or a sleep specialist for prescription of these drugs.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
