Brief Answer:
Craniotomy is the procedure of opening the skull bone.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted the details.

Craniotomy is a procedure of opening the skull bone. It is done for a variety of conditions.

The commonest reason for doing a craniotomy is brain tumor, where the skull is opened to remove the brain tumor.

Other causes are brain stroke and brain hemorrhage, where Craniotomy is done to relieve the high brain pressure. In some cases, the skull bone is immediately replaced back, however, in some cases, the skull bone is preserved in a bone bank, and replaced later once the brain pressure has markedly reduced.

I hope it helps.

Best wishes,

ok just making sure I understand.... He was in hopes to relieve really bad headaches after doing so many shunt operations I had seven just last year alone. The doctor who did all the surgeries did this in hopes to get rid of headaches .. I had hemorrhaged when he did the right side the hemorrhage was due to the operations according to him he did the sub temporal decompression to try to relieve some intercranial pressure..… would this generally be something that a neurosurgeon what do to try to get the intensity of a headache down?

Brief Answer:
Yes you are correct.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

You are absolutely correct in your understanding.

The neurosurgeon did the decompressive craniotomy to relieve the brain pressure caused due to hemorrhage (bleeding) in the brain, which probably resulted due to earlier surgery.
