Will 5-Hydroxy Tryptophan Test As A Benzodiazepine In A Urine Drug Test?
There is no interaction between these two.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXX
Thanks for writing to HCM
5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is a naturally occurring amino acid and it is used as a dietary supplement,as an antidepressant, appetite suppressant and sleep aid.
5-HTP is a chemical precursor as well as a metabolic intermediate in the biosynthesis of the neurotransmitters such as serotonin and melatonin from tryptophan.
Oral 5-HTP is excreted as a urinary 5-HIAA(5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid).
5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) is a product of serotonin metabolism that is excreted in the urine.
Where as Benzodiazepines are a large group of drugs that act as central nervous system depressants. It is used in the treatment of seizures, insomnia, anxiety disorders, acute alcoholism withdrawal, convulsions, muscle relaxants etc.
There is no interaction between these two compounds and 5 HTP can't be detected as a benzodiazepine in a urine drug test.
Hope I have answered your question.
Further queries are most welcome.
