Will Adderall Negatively Impact An EKG Report?
Question: I am adult female age 51and in good overall health and low BMi. I take 20-40 mg of Adderall a day - as prescribed by physician. I am scheduled for routine EKG to be cleared for a cosmetic surgery. Will the Adderall negatively impact my EKG

Regarding your concern, I would explain that the drug you are using (Adderall) is classified as a sympathomimetic drug, thus exerting similar effects of endogenous catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine).
The most prominent effect of Adderall on resting ECG is sinus tachycardia. This may be the only sign, if the drug is taken under close medical supervision in appropriate dosing.
When a possible overdosing appears, other arrhythmias may appear, like sinoatrial slowing with escape junctional or ventricular rhythm, atrial tachycardia, ventricular premature beats, and in rare cases even life-threatening arrhythmia like ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation.
Amphetamine use may sometimes lead to clinical scenario and ECG signs of myocardial ischemia and infarction.
As I represented to you a full picture of possible ECG abnormalities driven by amphetamine, I would like to assure you that most of these arrhythmias occur in drug abuser subjects, and not in medically treated patients.
