Will Surgery Be Delayed Post Getting Steroid Injection For Severe Hip Pain?
Question: Iwas in acar accident. Since then i have serious hip pain and confirmed torn labrum left side. I have trouble sitting etc. In November I had a steroid injection into left hip joint. I wad able to sit normally for 45 minutes without pain. I am scheduled to discuss hip laproscapy with the surgeon that performed the injection on Monday. I havehave a pain management doctor that wants to do an SI steroid injection tomorrow. Would this injection cause hip surgery to be postponed because of the steroid? The muscular skeletal DO believes the SI pain is result of hip joint injury. I am just concerned that we would have to postpone surgery.
I had I have a question for an orthopedic surgeon

Brief Answer:
You can undergo Arthroscopic surgery
Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Thanks for the query.
Usually we don't postpone surgery after giving steroid injection.
It is a good idea to undergo Hip arthroscopic surgery to repair/remove the torn labrum cartilage so that you will feel better.
You can go ahead with the surgery.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

So if I have the SI injection tomorrow, hip surgery would not need to be postponed? I know that surgery is postponed after steroid injection into hip joint by 6 weeks. I'm assuming this is different then?
Brief Answer:
Steroid usually shows full therapeutic effect in 6 weeks
Detailed Answer:
Usually steroid takes 6 weeks to show effect on the joint which is why your Doctor has advised to wait for 6 weeks to see if you get further relief, thus not necessitating surgery immediately.
