Brief Answer:
Yes, It can cause increase in blood sugar.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Stopping Thyronorm (thyroxine) can cause increase in blood sugar due to low metabolism. So thyroxine should be continued.

Diamicron (Gliclazide) is a sulfonylurea drug given to control blood sugar. It is good for controlling sugar but long term effects are not favourable. You are taking Diamicron xr mex 500, it is with combination of metformin 500.

Metformin is good. I would recommend DPP4 inhibitor group of drugs like sitagliptin along with metformin which is more safe. But this drug is more expensive than gliclazide.

If you want a cheap alternative then i would recommend thiazolidinediones like pioglitazone along with metformin. But take these drugs only after a consult with your physician.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Usually medications for diabetes should be taken life long.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for your follow up query.

Usually medications for Diabetes should be taken life long. This is because diabetes due to insufficiency of beta cells to produce insulin. A proper follow up with your doctor is necessary and blood sugar level should be checked regularly. If controlled well with medication it can be checked monthly. At least a visit to doctor at 3 month interval is necessary. Dosage of medications can be reduced if your sugar level is controlled.

But for some patients there is normalization of blood sugar levels after some time of therapy and there won't be any need of medication. But this condition won't last longer usually. So drugs are taken for life long. Only adjustment of dosage is done according to change in blood sugar.

Let me know if anything not clear. I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
