Question: I'm a 74 year old male with a lack of energy lately. My thyroid is normal per my doctor. Would taking a B vitamin or some other supplement help to give me energy. I sometimes wake up tired.

Brief Answer:
I doubt vitamin B would help much; a few other suggestions though

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Sir there can be many causes for your exhaustion, but yes a nutrient deficiency is the most likely cause. I shall go ahead an list the most likely causes for your reference sir:

+Vitamin D deficiency
+Anemia
+Respiratory abnormalities
+Cardiac abnormalities
+Diabetes
+Obesity
+Neuropsychological disorders (e.g. depression, anxiety, etc.)
+Side effect of medications
+Alcohol abuse
+Caffeine overuse
+Excessive or less than normal physical activity
+Lack of sleep
+Poor diet
and a few others.

If there were a vitamin B12 deficiency you would experience symptoms like tingling or numbness in extremities, oral ulcers or soreness in the mouth, etc. I would rather suggest a better diet, adequate exposure to the sun, good amount of physical activity, and iron supplements with a multivitamin supplement as well; but highly doubt that a vitamin B complex supplement would help much.

I hope you find my response both helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help.

Best wishes.
