Question: I quit smoking years ago, but have used e-cigs for the past year. I stopped using e-cig for 6 weeks prior to blood test. Will they detect cotitine in my system?

Brief Answer:
No,the blood test won't detect cotinine in system.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome to HealthcareMagic!

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
The time that a drug stays in the system depends on the half-life of the drug.
The rule is that any kind of drug you take needs around 5 half lives to be totally cleared off your systems.

Cotinine is the main metabolite of nicotine and it has a short half live of 20 hours.
So 5 half lives are less than 5 days.
This means that cotinine will be out of your system about 5 days after the last time you have smoked.

Since you have quite smoking 6 weeks ago ,you don't need to worry because the blood will test negative for sure.

Hope it was of help.
Let me know if you have other questions or doubt to clarify.I will be happy to help you.

Kind Regards!
