11 Year Kid, Suffering From Stomach Pain, Pain When Hungry. What Could Be This?

My daughter is 11 years old and she complains of stomach pain constantly. Usually it's due to constipation, and improves when she has a bowel movement. But lately she has the stomach pain in the middle of the abdomen. She says that it is a pain like when she is hungry but she just ate, and when she goes to the bathroom is only gases. What can we do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

I can understand your concern, but her presentation does indicate some kind of a problem. The possible causes for such a presentation, with all the important information provided by you are:
-Peptic ulcer disease
-Irritable bowel syndrome (type-constipation)
-Constipation
-Gastritis
-Gall stones
-Lactose intolerance
and a few other conditions.

It is close to impossible to reach a diagnosis without gathering history, food items that she has been consuming (diet) and a physical examination; which might require an endoscopy as a follow up investigation. I would recommend a visit to your daughter's pediatrician or a gastroenterologist directly. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

In the meantime, please give her plenty of fluids. Increased fiber in her diet, avoid carbonated drinks, acid containing food or fruits, and give her 5-6 small meals through the day instead of 2-3 large ones.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-shoaib-khan/64581 . I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
