Patellofemoral pain syndrome can be caused due to various factors.Usually ll these factors cause repeated increase in pressure beyween the patella and its various points of contact with the femur.First you should rule out whether you have a flat foot or a high arched foot.If you have these you have to adjust your footwear to compensate them as these conditions can put pressure over your Exercises like Quadriceps strengthening can help to improve your condition .These can be discussed with your physical therapist.Initially you have to reduce activity involving your knee. You canuse elliptical nonimpact exercise machines found in most health clubs to exercise. You should apply ice for 10 to 20 minutes after activity.Knee braces can be used to reduce the pain. Methods like taping the patella using McConnel taping can be useful and can be discussed and learnt from aphysical therapist.Using good footwear and Arch supports can halp improve your pain.As a last resort arthroscopic surgery like lateral release can be tried.
