16 Year Old With Shingles On The Head. On Acyclovir. Heavy Bleeding. Diagnosed With Anemia. Any Blood Disorder Chances?
Hi my 16 year old daughter started having recurrent shingles twice yearly on her forehead, she has been treated with acyclovir PRN, she now has horrible menstrual cycles with heavy bleeding, she was diagnosed with anemia. Her grandmother was just diagnosed with Lymphoma. Should I have her checked out for a blood disorder
Sorry to hear about your daughter's problem. As you have mentioned, the most probable cause for her anemia is her heavy menstrual cycles but just to be on the safer side it is best to get a peripheral smear examination done.
This would reveal the type of anemia and also help in ruling out lymphoma. This can also be useful in the management of the anemia. If it is iron deficiency (which is the most likely anemia after heavy bleeding), she will require iron supplementation.
