17 Year Old Diagnosed With Mononucleosis. Any Advice For Quick Recovery? Feeling Tired

Thank you, My son is a 17 year old Football Player who was diagnosed with Mononucleosis He is very depressed and agitated with missing football practice and missing school. Is there any advice to his mother to help along quick recovery. His appetite is good ,no fever . coloring in face is good, but complains still of fatigue . I am not sure if spleen is still swollen since he has not been checked by a Doctor in six days. I appreciate all of your advice, and a big Thank You.

1. mononucleosis [glandular fever], Since it is a virus infection, you cannot treat it with medicine, it will require 4-8 weeks for full recovery [since he is asymptomatic]
2. check for LFT [liver function tests].
3. because your son is a football player, make sure he starts playing sport very slowly, because his muscles will not be ready yet and too much physical activity can increase chance for relapse and other diseases. So make sure he get enough rest.

PS:
i. Malaise. [fatigue] is often the last symptom to go, so he is having the same.
ii. The spleen usually become normal after about three weeks. However, one study found that in 3 out of 19 people it took eight weeks. Therefore, if you want to be absolutely sure, make sure he should not play or avoid rough or contact sports after having glandular fever.
iii .try to improve the Immune status.
