2 Year Old Child, Frequent Fever. Taking Crocin, No Improvement. What Should Be Done?

My child age 2 years 8 months has tendency for fever very frequently. On 7th Sep 2013, he got feveric convulsion and hospitalized for 10 days in Apollo hospital , Kolkata. From last 1 year, we are taking utmost care but still fever atttacks him very frequently. Most frustrating part of fever is it goes up to 104.5 with in a hour or two . Even after prescribed Dosed crocin Ds as per doctor advise, temperature is not going down, and it always hovers more than 100 to 102.5. We are literally struggling to put his temperature down by other means like sponging, bathing.

My question is if crocin DS is not working effectively , what should be alternative besides sponging or bathing.

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M.. Forum.
Since you are using crocin from last few weeks along cold sponging and bathing for high temperature .
As you mentioned that temperature hovers around 104 -105 degree.
Fever ( such high ) so high temperature may be due to ,
1 MALARIA ( get in blood for blood film as well card test for malaria , all 4 strains )
2 Maybe due to teething at this age , in this type of fever usually the forehead and sole and palm burns .
3 May be due to primary complex in lungs . Diagnosis can be confirmed by X ray chest and consult a physician and get his opinion.
4 Get in blood for E S R ( if it is more then 70 -80 mm of Hg then a cause of concern ) if all above tests are normal .
Good luck for little one.

Hi
Thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
As you mentioned your child had an episode of febrile convulsions and there are chances of recurrence so fever needs to be controlled.
Focus of fever needs to be investigated but since he has been hospitalised all investigations must have been done.

Regarding management of fever if it is not coming down with paracetamol I suggest you to give combination of paracetamol with ibuprofen or mefenemic acid can also be used in high fever.

I suggest you to discuss it with your doctor and he will prescribe you the same.

Hope this helps.

God bless..
