3 Year Old With Cough, Vomiting. Need Treatment? No Fever
My son just turned 3 and the past 2 mornings (once at 3am and this morning at 6am) I heard him cough and then ran into his room to find him standing by his bed, gagging and vomiting . The vomit is very dry, in chunks and yellowish in color. In fact, I can see that it s Mac n Cheese that he threw up the first night. After he vomits he s absolutely fine with no other symptoms (no fever , no stomach pains, he s actually hungry). I noticed this morning he must have climbed out of bed and turned on the light before vomiting so he was aware he didn t feel good. Not sure what this could be, especially since there are no other symptoms. What should I do?

How severe is the cough? Many kids vomit after a severe bout of cough.
He might need medications for his cough based on presence or absence of chest signs.
He might also need medications like Lansoprazole for few days to control acidity and reflux which may also produce such symptoms.
Its better to get him seen by your doctor who can examine him and guide accordingly.

Your child is having gastritis.i suggest you to give him antiemetic like domperidone or ondensteron as per dosage.
Give him plenty of fluids and soft bland diet,avoid all kind of fried and junk food.
In case symptoms persist get him evaluated by pediatrician,

IN this the contents of the stomach regurgitate into the food pipe that is the esophagus. This may cause vomiting and coughing. You may try simple measures to avoid that. Make your child sleep on a pillow. The angle achieved can be up to 45 degrees. Also avoid heavy meals just before sleeping. Make your child play a little or walk a bit after dinner and before sleep. Avoid heavy meals. Concentrate on small frequent diets. Also avoid oily and spicy foods. One another reason may be some gastritis. Simple milk of magnesia or any other antacid should help in that case. IN any case if the problem persists you should show a pediatrician or pediatric surgeon.
