3.5 Year Old Daughter, Having Ear Infection, Wheezing, Cold. Taking Zinnat, Predcort. Will Wheezing Be Permanent?
Hi I have a three and a half year old daughter who came down with a cold bout one week now, her doctor said she had an ear infection and she is wheezing bad, what I'm worried about is weather the wheezing will be a permanent thing or is it just because she has a bad cold flu. Her pediatrician prescribed zinnat, predcort and aero flux .
Welcome to HCM. Wheezing is due to severe cold flu infection spread from upper to lower respiratory tract.Wheezing occurs due to collection of inflammatory secretions is the tract. It will recover with antibiotic, bronchodilator. Your doctor is on right way,Continue medicines. It can be recurrent if it is purely allergic in nature. You have to avoid triggering factors like ice creams, cold drinks, chocolates, fry foods.Seasonal changes may precipitate allergic wheezing. Keep in touch with your doctor.
The wheezing is due to bronchiolitis which results from the viral infection of small airways.
But recurrent wheezing is seen in bronchial asthma which is aggravated by cold weather and dust.
With first episode it is difficult to conclude the nature of problem.
Is there asthma or atopic diseases in the family?
Wheezing is one time event in children with bronchiolitis, but frequent and recurrent wheezing is a sign and symptom of underlying hyper reactive disease such as asthma, allergic bronchitis.
Continue the medication as advised by the pediatrician and be in follow up.
If there is wheezing it could be bronchial asthma. Some children improve with age. They may not have a permanent problem.
This improvement is because of the increase in the size of the airways. Even though they may have bronchoconstriction this increase in the size of the airways could compensate for that.
Some children particularly those with bronchial asthma family history may continue to have the problem as adults also.
