4th Seizure, Not In A Row. Could Having Braces Or Weather Climate Cause This ?
My brother just recently had another seizure, I believe it's his 4th one; but not in a row. Could having braces or weather climate possibly be a cause of it? He's not diabetic, has not had any strokes or tumors, and does not do drugs or drink alcohol. He's been taking his medication like he's supposed to. The seizure occurred as he was brushing his teeth in the bathroom.
Hi, Seizure is a symptom that can either have a cause or could be cryptogenic or of unknown origin. When a patient has seizures, the causes of seizures are ruled out with investigations like CT scan of the brain and a detailed blood work etc. There is an exhaustive list of what conditions can cause seizures. Then there are situations that can trigger off (or precipitate) seizures eg-lack of sleep, intense emotions, hypoglycemia, fatigue etc. No, wearing braces does not cause seizures and weather change is not a common trigger. Another entity known as reflex epilepsy is where seizures can be provoked by an external stimulus eg. repetitive light stimulation, patterns like circles or stripes, contact with hot or cold water etc. Here the seizures are fairly predictable. There are many anti- epileptic agents to control the condition. Repeated uncontrolled seizures can cause brain damage and other complications hence do not neglect it. Consult a neurologist or a psychiatrist at the earliest. Hope this helps, Dr A Rao
