5 Month Baby, Diagnosed As UTI. Taking Medication, Not Passing Stool After Medication. Side Effect? Suggestions?
My 5 months baby is diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and my baby's doctor prescribed Cefixme Oral Suspension IP Taxim-O drops (for Paediatric use) (16 drops, 3 times a day for 10 days). My baby is not passing stool after taking this drops (today is the 7th day). Is it a common side effects? Can we use syrup looz to the baby for passing the tool.
Hi dear,
Thanks for your query to health care magic. Antibiotics are known to cause diarrhea as a side effect. Constipation as a side effect of cefixime is not so commonly reported. But constipation canoccur during illness due to decreased intake and dehydration. syrup looz can be tried since it is already seven days. If even after two days of looz syrup your baby doesn't pass stools, a saline enema will help in passing stools. DOn't worry she will be fine.
Take care
