5 Months Pregnant, Needs Treatment For Heroin Addiction. Risks To The Baby ?
I have a friend who is 5 months pregnant we can t get her into treatment for heroin addiction for 3 weeks. She uses 1 10th gram every 24 hours and she thinks she can detox at home with vicadin I need to know what is the biggest risk to the baby and what to watch for. she won t see a doctor for prescription because she will lose the baby to cps. I know it s very dangerous for the baby what can I recommend or do to help?
Hello...it's a crime to let her do it to her baby...motivate her to get admitted as this can cause permeant damage to baby....is she going to gynaecologist for regular check up....has she received required immunisation...has she been started on iron and multivitamins specially folic acid...you have to take care of these things. Secondly persistent use of opiod can cause premature delivery, small baby, and very commonly respiratory distress in baby...if she continues she can cause permeant brain damage of the baby which is irreversible.....tell her all these facts and for the sake of her baby ask her to quit and she will need to do it under some supervision as withdrawal in itself can be dangerous for both mother as well as baby.....
