5 Months Pregnant, No Diabetes. Prescribed Glycomate. GGT Examination Done. Safe To Take?
Dear Sir, I am 5 month pregnant. my doctor has prescribed glycomate 850 mg twice a day during pregnancy even though i dont have diabetics. My sugar level is only 174 after GTT examination. She adviced me to take this even as diabetics is there in my family history. Please advice is it safe to take this table now . I am scared that it would have any side effects on my baby. Thanks
Hello,
Your sugar level of 174 mg / dl is bit high.
It may not be a value to call you a diabetic.
There is a terminology called as pregnancy induced diabetes (gestational diabetes) . where pregnancy can cause increase in sugar value even in people who are normal and have no family history of diabetes.
Since you still have 4 months of pregnancy to go, you need to control your sugar level.
And you cant follow a strict diet control because of your pregnancy.
Insulin or metformin is usually prescribed for this condition.
Insulin is of injecteble and it is highly inconvienient. Metformin with recent studies has proven to be safe in pregnancy.
Take care
Bye
