5 Year Old Child, Fever, Cough, Dark Green Mucus From Sinus. Taking Mucinex. Causes For Symptoms?
Hi, my son is 5 and has had a fever of 100-103.7 since Sunday. He is on Amoxil . His symptoms when I first took him to the dr were: slight cough, dark green mucus from the sinuses. He has been on Amoxil since Monday but still running a fever od 100-102. His sinus infection has gotten better but the fever and the cough is still there. His cough has gotten to the point that once he starts he can t stop. Using Mucinex to help. Appetite has gotten better and so has his energy. What is going on with him?
Your child is being treated for sinusitis with an antibiotic.
Children of this age can usually cough out their sputum so you can ascertain whether it is dry or wet cough. It usually takes time for the secretions to get completely cleared in a sinus infection.
If you feel the cough has worsened and fever is persisting, it would be advisable to get an x ray PNS to determine the extent and involvement of sinuses.
If x ray is suggestive of the same, the antibiotic can be changed accordingly.
So get an appointment with your Pediatrician to get him reviewed.
