5 Year Old With A Bump On The Back Of The Head After A Fall. Bald Patch Formed. Anything Serious?

My son of 5 fell off a swing a few weeks ago hitting the back of his head and immediately after a very angry bump/lump appeared. He was fine, no sign of concussion, no bleeding. A few weeks on the bump has gone down but in the area where it was there is now a bald patch. Is this a sign of anything serious? Should I take him to our GP? Will his hair ever grow back in that area?

Hello
Thank you for placing your query on Health Care Magic
Trauma can sometimes destroy the hair follicles on the scalp
It may recover fully or partly or the bald patch may stay. In children there are higher chances of recovery. There is no need to rush to a GP. Hair if has to grow back will take a few months to fully grow. Unfortunately if a bald patch remains you can consult a plastic surgeon. The patch can be removed and normal adjoining areas may be sutured together. Its a minor procedure and you need not worry.
Hopefully the patch will disappear on its own
God bless you
